“Buy a new truck, Mom,” Agamemnon said. He was standing in the parking garage attacked to his building, looking at the ancient, beat up truck his mother had just pulled up in. It stood out like a crow amongst the doves, especially when one looked at all the beautiful new model cars all around. Rowena climbed down, straightening her long black skirt.
“There’s nothing wrong with the truck,” she said. “It runs fine, does the job.”
“It’s older than I am and it’s ugly,” Agamemnon protested. “I’ll buy you a car. Something nice.”
Rowena bent down, kissing her son’s forehead. “Darling boy, I would break one of those plastic, computerized toys before I got out of the lot. The truck works fine. Your father and I bought it after we got married.” She patted the dusty, dented bonnet.
“Mom-”
“Shush.”
