“It’s Karolina and Victor,” Celeste informed the trio she had gathered together in what passed for her office since she’d moved the whole school into the secure facilities beneath the actual school itself.
Molly buried her face in her hands and moaned. “Oh God, I really don’t need this.”
“Are you sure it was them?” Chase asked. “I mean, sure, I can see Vic going to the Dark Side, but not K. Besides, like she’d go anywhere without Xavin? Anyway, we’re fighting shape-shifters. Maybe they’re trying to throw us off.”
“Xavin the Skrull?” Molly asked pointedly. “Chase, we haven’t seen either of them in years. A lot can change. Hell, look at Billy and Teddy. Or Stephanie. Or us.”
“We need to talk to them,” Klara said, finally breaking her silence. “We need to stop this before they attack the school. We must protect the children.”
“Even if it means surrender?” Celeste asked.
Klara shrugged slightly. “When we came here, it was to keep these children safe from a world that hates and fears them,” she said. “At any cost. We can do no less than your mother and sisters did.”
