Boku, Unmei no Hito Desu episode 1
Masaki Makoto(Kamenashi Kazuya) is a 29year old guy who just started to work for this branch of water distribution company. He is regular guy(albeit handsome) and his coworkers seem nice. Also there is a guy who started company at the same time as Masaki so he has friend already. People from the office go drinking later and of course Masaki is asked about romantic status. And this is an interesting part. Masaki is magnet for weird women. As his friend, Kazuo, reveals to everyone, Masakis' last girlfriend managed to gain 25kg in 5months they were dating. She insisted she didn't ate anything though. One before that used to steal money from his wallet whenever he was in the bathroom. Don't know if this is sad or funny. But Masaki insists that he now has a great girlfriend. When he shows them picture, girl is a real beauty, every guy in office is jealous and Masaki can't help but be a little proud.
Kogetsu Haruko is a strong woman working in the same building and on the same floor. That day she hold an presentation on solo people spending less money on eating in public but her friend, Yotsuya(Nanao) interrupted to say she doesn't mind being seen alone. Later they go to the same restaurant and owner apologizes for Makotos' colleagues being loud. But Yotsuya has something to talk about. Recently she took her boyfriends' phone and saw that he has another woman. She confronted the woman only to be called 2nd instead. Yotsuya then confronted boyfriend and told him that she is ok with being 2nd, but not to even think of getting the 3th one. What?!! Haruko tells her she should dump a guy(smart girl!).
That night, Masaki called his girlfriend to come over and is tidying around(can i have a Kame of my own vacuuming around in white sweather?) before going to buy some wine. Not some cheap but a 14800yen(almost 150$) one. As he unlocks his apartment door, he finds a Man(Yamashita Tomohisa) sitting on his couch. Makoto is in shock and a man tells him that his girlfriend isn't coming. He turns TV on to show that Makotos' girlfriend is getting arrested for kidnapping and extortion around 1mill yen. He cries pathetically wondering why is this always happening to him. Was he that bad to women in last life that karma turns it on him this time? Man explains that there is a reason for it, and it is that destiny already has someone special for Makoto to meet. Makoto is touched that "detective-san" is offering such kind words and assures him that he has no desire to end his life. But Man is confused. Detective?! Would detective enter freely someones' home? With shoes on no less?
Makoto: Who are you then?
Man: I thought it would be clear in this situation.
Makoto: It is not!
Man: Ok ok ok. I am... ta-daaaa-A God!
Makoto: Wha?
Man: Didn't you hear? I'm Kami. Kami-sama. G.O.D. Right here.
Buahahahaha! Of course, Makoto grabs a nearest weapon(kitchen knife) and threatens to call the police. Man tells him to do just that but what he finds in his left pocket is an photo of a young woman. Makoto has no clue where did it come from but Man reveals that girl is Makotos' soulmate. Kogetsu Haruko(Fumino Kimura) is 29years old and if he doesn't marry her by the end of this and kid by the next year planet will be destroyed. He says it so lightly that you have no idea if he is joking or not. And when he continues to say how kid will save planet 30 years from now, will be only peace and physics Nobel prize winner and combine that with his quite quirky attitude, you have to wonder if he is joking, serious or completely nuts. Also girls sits behind him on his new work place. Makoto reasonably says that for the sake of argument he decides to believe in this, there is no way to approach someone with that kind of story. Besides behind his desk is a wall so no one can sit behind him. But Man tells him that behind that wall is agency where this girl is working. And her desk is just behind his. He leaves "destiny of the planet" in Makotos' hands and literally disappears.
Next day, everyone in office knows about Makotos' misfortune but he is already over it and asks his goofy friend about company next door. It is company for data analysis, their company Director Hatosaki and water company Director Karasuda, can't stand eachother. Data Company refused to use their water many times. But Makoto decides to pay a little visit and when he enters their office, he indeed sees that behind his wall is the desk of a girl from the photo. Yotsuya interrupts his stop-and-stare moment so he has to explain his purpose, but Director Hatosaki comes out of her office to fetch him. In there, she is hostile reminding that they already refused water from them. Makoto is polite and apologizes playing on "new guy" trope. However he asks if she can tell him why so he can work on making product better. He smooth talks her saying their companies are connected like this and she explains everything. Makoto returns to the office saying she agreed to give them a month trial.
People in the office are shocked since no one else managed to do it and want to know the reason. It so happens that their own Director Karasuda (cutie) happen to close the elevator door just in front of her nose. Twice. Yikes. Anyway they need to work hard to gain trust trough that trial period.
When returning home, he finds God there again. He asks why Makoto didn't make a move and continues to give him proof of their connection. Exhibit A: he has a picture of his first love when he was 5yo and they made castle in the sand. That girl was Haruko, the first girl he held hands with. His first love. Exhibit B: when on college test, he forgot his pencil and girl behind him lent it to him. He still has that pencil and girl was Haruko. Plus his college entrance was 3340. Hers was 3341. Exhibit C: New Year shrine visit picture, there is a girl in the background. You guessed it, Haruko-chan. She was the one who threw the 5yen coin that hit his head(ergo she paid him directly to make her wish come true) and hung her wish, to meet her destiny man. Makoto confesses of girl being his type. God is like, great so you should aproach her tomorrow. Makoto is not so convinced but God points it is about earths' survival.
Meanwhile, Haruko comes home. She brought some batteries to her Dad who is not really type ro say thanks. Mom points it and they bicker making Haruko smile. But then Mom brings up their young neighbour who got married recently. And she is 2years younger than Haruko. Mom asks if Haruko is being considerate and doesn't bring her boyfeiends home but Haruko says it is because there is no boyfriend. She excuses herself to go take a bath and Dad tells Mom not to say things like that. Haruko has her own life. But Mom is too incredulous that neighbour girl was the first one to get married when she had fake nails and regularly came back in the morning hours till recent. While in bathroom, Haruko finds a gray hair.
After a dream where 30years in the future people are banging on his door cursing him for not making it work with Haruko, Makoto prepares to go to work. he brings water dispenser to company next door and Director lady is honestly nice to him but he wants to see Haruko. She is unfortunately on meeting.
After work, Yotsuya and Haruko go to eat. Yotsuya wants Haruko to go with her to this party with some single business man. Haruko doesn't believe they are single. She obviously had bad experiance with this. She says that she needs a stable man and one honest encounter. Yotsuya aska how will she ever meet a man if she doesn't do anything. But Haruko still doesn't want to go to party. Yotsuya pouts that she won't invite her to one anyway.
After hard work day, Makoto is eating his lunch in park. Making up his mind, he goes to the temple and confirms that there is plate with Harukos' name saying she wishes for destined man and marriage. Going home, he ends up in empty elevator with Haruko. Eager to talk with her he chooses the worst possible tactic: 100% honesty. All with God, destiny and their newborn being earth savior. It doesn't end well.
At home, he is nursing sore sholder and a beer can when someone rings a doorbell. It is God. Makoto slams a door in his face only to turn around and find God in his kitchen. Lol. Makoto complains about Haruko but God tells him that she suffered in her relationahips and that is why she is like that. Makoto should be the one who understands the best. Makoto still doesn't like it but God tells him to return a pencil to her.
Haruko got a reunion invitation but she refused it. Mom and Dad think she should have gave it a try, like they did and ended up together. She smiles and says she is going on business trip so she will be late. Once in her room she sents message to Yotsuya about going to that drinking party. Yotsuya is thrilled.
Makoto is sent on trip to mauntain where old couple wants to have water. They live in beautiful old house and there is even delicious water, but it doesn't suit them so they sign a contract with Makoto.
Later, Makoto is at the station, reporting to his Boss when he sees Haruko approaching. She starts walking away till he shows her contract he made. He turns accusation on her but she was there to get some samples from the local bakery. Makoto agai honestly tells her about never being lucky in love and that he realized it is because destiny pushed him towards her. But she tells him it is all gross and not to talk to her again. He is left alone on station.
Haruko tells everyrhing to Yotsuya who finds it all wonderfull, like destiny. Haruko tells her not to use destiny so lightly, it is a thing you know after you get married. How could she know it if she is not married? Well she is in marketing for sooo long. Pfft. Yotsuya points that marketing is just that(aka not life). I agree.
Makoto comes home, drunk, calling for God to come out. When he does Makoto lounches a tirade. Why didn't he get a better weapon? This destiny thing is useless. Besides why does he have to marry someone he doesn't love in the first place? God points it out that Makoto said girl is his type but Makoto says that talking to her twice was enough for him to see that she is so cold. That is why it is up to God to save the earth. It is not Makotos' fault or girls' fault, maybe it is just earths' destiny... God is serious saying it may be that way before thanking Makoto for what he did and disappearing.
Preparing for work, Makoto finds envelope containing tickets for concert. Makoto offers them to his goofy friend but after being mocked for buying them for arrested girl, he decides to go alone. It is classical music orchestra playing Beethovens' 5th symphony, in Japan they nicknamed it Destiny though it is also known as Victory Symphony. Anyway, as Makoto is listening to the music, he remembers a baseball match in his highschool. He was a pitcher for last throw. Unfortunatelly, with African Symphony in the background, batter managed to score and while Makotos' team lost. Later he is crying softly while other team and their band celebrate. One of the girls from said band comes to him and cheers him up saying he worked hard with big smile on her face. Makoto realizes it was Haruko. The orchestra finishes its symphony and Makoto rises up clapping his hands vigorously. But, he is not alone. Haruko, sitting on the other side from him, stood up at the same time, clapping. For the few seconds, they are starring at eachother in disbelief till the crowd rises and they are lost in it.
Haruko returns home and looks the same picture where Makoto and her were 5years old.
Makoto comes home(returning to ring a bell) where God welcomes him asking how was it. The feeling of only two of them standing at that moment. Makoto confesses that it felt like him beginning to believe in destiny a little. But God tells him that with that everything is not over with that batter guy. He is back and will soon reconnect with Haruko. Indeed, we see that next day the same guy is welcomed to his new workplace. And it is in building right across the street.
