One of my nightly habits is to sit out on my back porch and read news and blogs on my laptop while sipping on a beer and puffing on a cigarette. Oh, ya... and spraying my exposed skin with mosquito repellant and lighting a citronella candle.
One night, maybe a couple of months ago, I stumbled upon a blog entry touting this product named "SkeeterBag". The product is dead-simple: it's a fine mesh net you attach to the front (the output) of a typical box fan. Too simple to be true, right?
I finally broke down and bought me a SkeeterBag, and stuck it on an old box fan last night. That box fan now sits a couple of feet away from me on the porch, facing away from me. I haven't seen a mosquito since I set it up, except for the ~25 (last night) or ~150+ (tonight) I can see wadded up dead or dying in a little wad at the far end of the bag. In fact, tonight I haven't even applied any repellant to my skin or lit the lame citronella candle.
I love SkeeterBag because it's a low-tech and dead-simple solution to an irritating problem I face every evening. As a plus, jasolater thinks the dead insects will make great food for his fish.
