Essentially, if I had to strip down my computer software to the essentials, I would only need Photoshop and Firefox.

My video card is pretty much on the way out on my desktop. Awesome timing too, especially with the holidays, because I have so much money to spend. /end sarcasm

I was thinking about a unified structure in social computing and media, there's so many widgets and things that go with hoozits and whatzits galore, and I'm a bit overloaded, I need to streamline a process or someone out there needs to do it for us.
Take meebo for example, they made an awesome in-browser IM client that supports a large majority of IM clients. You can have AIM, Yahoo, Insert your choice of IM client here, all in one nice comfy spot.
So to expand on the idea of "social unified computing" (copyright pending Dkd) the guy who brings everything together into one easy-to-use compact hub is going to rule the world. For example, I can update twitter from my phone or IM, which will show up on my facebook, which I can have a link to and from my LJ when I make a post. Yet if I wanted to post a blog to myspace and maybe even vox I'd have to log in seperately to do so. Which I get, they want you to use their system exclusively. But we live in a world of choices. I use LJ because it archives well and it's good for personal journaling. But Vox has better layouts and is a bit more media friendly. Wordpress takes a bit of savvy and cash to set up, but is very powerful and search engine friendly. Blogger just sucks. But it's for the dumbest of the dumb, so I guess it works. Xanga is garbage. But you see what I mean. Different things offer better things, but it's scattered all over the place.
If I could update my LJ and have it update my vox, myspace and facebook all at once, that would be awesome. It's getting there however. A lot of services allow you to pull from popular image banks, such as photobucket, flickr, etc...so I can essentially have all my photos stored on flickr and pull from them on myspace, LJ and vox, but it's still a bit too scatter brained for me.
I'll say it again.
