Monotonous, that is what I would call my life this week. The last few days have followed the same predictable pattern:
1. Drag myself up from bed, get dressed, grab things.
2. Drag myself to street where I can get a cab.
3. Drag myself up a flight of stairs to my office.
4. Sit in chair, turn on computer.
5. Check email, LJ, Gawker sites, other blogs while eating breakfast.
6. Twiddle thumbs, think about what to do next.
7. Do actual work.
8. Eat lunch.
9. Curse at slow/unresponsive/WTF computer.
10. Work.
11. Study for GRE.
12. Go home.
13. Eat dinner.
14. Watch movie or read.
15. Sleep
SO BORING.
Rabbit knows what I'm talking about.
At least today I have tutoring after work, that'll shift things up a bit.

From my desk I can see a student of ours who is, frankly, very strange. She usually has a very distressed expression on her face, and whenever she speaks, she sounds whiny and, again, distressed. I've heard her muttering to herself many a time (and she usually ignores me when I try to talk to her during her mutterings). She has also recently taken to wearing a headscarf.
Now, there are of course perfectly legitimate reasons for wearing a headscarf, and I'm not about to deny anyone the privilege of wearing one. Live and let live, and all that, right? However, when I asked her why she did, she merely said, "I think it looks pretty."
I find that attitude pretty strange when it comes to something like a headscarf, which has a significant and controversial history. There aren't that many Muslim women or women of Middle Eastern ancestry in Shenzhen, so I wonder where she got the inspiration for wearing it.

I just realized that I'm one of three people in my department who will still be here next year. We have seven now, four are leaving. I have to think of going away presents for all of them! What do I get?!?!?!
Must have a bit of a think.

Edited to add: I tried out the "Surprise Me" journal randomizer on the home page. I clicked it five times. Three were in Russian, one was about IT, and another was about real estate.
