tf_speedwriting Prompt 2. Stargazing. ...
“Wow...they’re so beautiful” is what Bulkhead had expected the young teenager to exclaim as she looked up at the stars...well, she might have had she not been bored out of her mind.
She sat on the dune beside him huddled in a small ball, looking rather sullen actually.
“Miko...what’s wrong?” he asked gently, seeing her finally sigh and look up at the stars.
“I just expected something...more exciting” she lifted a finger absent-mindedly, slowly tracing some of the stars into shapes she saw.
The once wrecker vented a sigh himself, also glancing skywards. “Not everything has to be action packed” he smiled to himself as he watched the stars twinkling down on he and his charge. “Sometimes it good to take a break, slow down and relax”
The Japanese girl frowned to herself and resisted saying a snarky comment, not wanting to upset her guardian.
“Miko?” Bulkhead again couldn’t resist looking at the girl, wanting her to be happy.
“I’m sorry Bulk...” she trained her gaze to meet his own, “I just find this a bit boring” With a small grin, she looked up at him, sudden excitement overtaking her. “But you could take me dune bashing again!”
Rolling his optics, Bulkhead shook his helm. “It’s night time...that will draw too much attention, and you know what Optimus said”
“Awwww” she moaned, flopping down and once more looking up at the stars with little interest.
Desperately trying to keep her interested, Bulkhead spoke. “Don’t you need to know some of the star patterns for your science class?”
“You mean constellations? Probably” she shrugged it off, pointing up at the only one she knew fully. “That one’s the frying pan, better known as the big dipper” she laughed at the truly confused expression Bulkhead gave her, so she pointed out another. “Oh...and that’s Orion’s belt...you’re meant to be able to make out the rest of him, but I can only get the belt part” she yawned, stretching out on her back and gazing upwards tiredly.
“You don’t know any more?”
“Nah”
Bulkhead wanted to help her, but he knew nothing about human constellations either. At least she knew a couple. He took one last look at the stars before transforming and opening a door for his charge.
“Come on Miko, I should probably get you home...it’s getting late”
She wanted to complain like she always did, but instead merely yawned, kind of proving his point. “Fine” she sighed, slowly climbing into his passenger side door and snuggling into the seat.
As he drove in silence, Bulkhead quickly noticed she had fallen asleep almost immediately. “Sleep well Miko” he whispered to the girl, slowly heading towards Jasper.
