Two orders of business:
1- Knee surgery is a thing that is happening after all! I'm taking a medical leave of absence for the J-term and will be spending the month of January at home, recuperating. Surgery's tentatively scheduled for the 2nd, and my pre-op's on Tuesday. I'm both excited and terrified--one of my RL friends asked me if I was ready for surgery, and my immediate answer was "no", followed by a startled look from her to which I replied "could I ever be?"--and making arrangements for navigating the house and clothing and life post-surgery is doing little to ease the tension in my gut. I'm still convinced that surgery is the right, best, decision, though; I'm just being a wimp, I guess. I've got four days to finish wringing my hands and get my game face on, like it or not, so here's hoping I spend them productively!
2- Presents are coming! The gifts for those of you who wanted physical presents are already in the mail, so you should be receiving them soonish! And, since I missed Christmas, I've decided the rest will be distributed on New Year's! So be looking for a master post of presents, both here and on tumblr, when Jan 1 rolls around. Sorry they're so late, guys! <3
So, yeah, all in all the past few weeks have been pretty great, and in some ways I'm pretty glad that I'll be spending a few more weeks in Wyoming. I miss winter a lot in Kentucky, and I love looking at my window, any window in my house, and seeing mountains. I miss the culture and the people and that infamous Wyoming wind when I'm at school, so even though there are things about Kentucky and Centre that I love, in a lot of ways I'm grateful to get a while longer here. I'm sure by the time January's over I'll be itching for independence and academic stimulation and all of my friends in Kentucky, but for now...
My annual New Year's Eve shindig is coming up, and I'm determined to make it a good one, since I don't know how much cooking I'll be able to do in the days following surgery. I always make stroganoff for the main dish and gingerbread cake for dessert, but other than that, it varies. Any suggestions for side dishes and/or snacks? Or movies we could watch! Bear in mind that one of my friends who's coming is pretty, uh, fervently a conservative, straight-laced, Christian, so I'm probably not going to be putting in, say, Wilby Wonderful or a Strachey mystery.
And, since I didn't say it in my last post: I hope you're having a great holiday season, no matter what or whether you celebrate, and that the weather is what you hope it to be! Happy New Year's, everyone!
