This is not particularly related, except in my mind (the part that isn't being obliterated by ginger candy, that is, as I attempt to clear my sinuses).
I read an interesting fantasy book this weekend (_Galveston_, by Sean Stewart) that used poker as a recurrent part of the story. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I knew more about poker; I had never heard the phrase "the River" before, for instance. The writer reminds me of a cross between Michael Swanwick (who wrote _The Iron Dragon's Daughter_ and _Stations of the Tide_) and Charles de Lint (if such a thing is possible).
