The phone cord curls around Nikki's finger, winding tighter and tighter almost making the tip turn white from lack of blood flow. She's worried, and for most of the right reasons. There are a few things that Nikki knows are certain for her sister and for the past few weeks it's changed almost every perspective she thought she had.
"Jess," Nikki's voice displays the same disapproving tone that it had since the early morning call that she got after David left. It was full of worry, and a bit of regret for not seeing the signs before it was too late.
There were signs too, but Jessica was too wrapped up in him, too wound around the idea of it all, the danger and Nikki knew better than to try and play big sister to her big sister. All the times Jessica had been there for Nikki and yet the one time Nikki could have helped... could have done something to protect her from getting hurt and she let her down.
"I can find him Nik... I can find him and he'll take me back."
Stifling a laugh Nikki shook her head letting the cord unwrap from her finger shaking it in the air trying to get the blood flow back before the pins and needles of numbness set in. Whoever that guy was... whoever he really was he had been good. Wrapped her sister so tight around his finger that even now, even after she knew the truth she still wanted to go back.
"Jess, it's not like that for him. You should know that by now... you should be looking for David, trying to fix it with him. He loves you... even after- after everything. Just find him... it'll be okay." Nikki knows it's not going to be okay. Being the mark... it leaves a mark after it's all over. Even when the con falls apart before the payoff.
Shifting the phone to her other ear Nikki circles in red marker the open casting call for guest stars on Expose. It's a bit lamer than Baywatch, and she knew that getting into this next one was going to take a bit more leg work both literally and metaphorically, but she had a few names already... and Paulo was already in Australia making himself known. She still had eight months to get cast, work her way in and hopefully leave her own mark on Zukerman before it was all over.
Her sister sighing on the other end of the line snapped her back out of her own plans of deception and back to her sister, who was still distraught over the way things had fallen apart since that con man came into it all four years ago. Her sister had been struggling trying to hold it together, but in the end... Nikki knew how it was going to turn out.
