A Non-Date
[8:18pm] arrive at our designated meeting point, Sweet
Peppers Deli. I am early (as I planned)
and I am hungry.
[8:21] order a grilled chicken salad and a dr pepper.
[8:24] go sit outside, crack open a book and attempt to
look intellectual. wish that I had
bought those fake emo glasses.
[8:31] my salad arrives.
I gingerly place my book down and begin to pick at the salad. it might look bad if I’ve eaten all of it
before he arrives, even if I am really hungry.
[8:38] he calls and says he’ll be another fifteen
minutes. I am slightly irritated.
[8:40] he walks up.
ha. a joke. my irritation fades. so does my chicken salad.
[8:41] we hug. he
smells good. I wonder if I smell
good. I decide to think that I do. positive thinking, positive thinking.
[8:47] he isn’t eating.
this makes me nervous. I try not
to get honey mustard on my face or jeans.
[8:53] making small talk.
he likes my book. he is reading a
chuck palahuniuk book that Troy
owns, but I have not read yet. I decide
I will start on this immediately.
[9:12] talk about favorite movies. he loves The Little Mermaid and Fight Club. I try not to ask him to marry me. this is successful.
[9:21] he talks about wanting to move to Florida. I think this is splendid and tell him I am
going to Panama City soon. he seems impressed.
[9:28] we decide it is time to go to the theater. we both are anxious to see batman. we take his car which is very nice and also
clean. I express my jealousy and he
tells me about the car he really wanted - it is a car I would have preferred
also.
[9:32] tickets for batman have been obtained. he pays for mine, which I did not
expect. I think I remember specifically
asking him not to earlier. oh well.
[9:34] we sit down in the theater and resume our chat. he’s not as cute in the dark, (he’s not
visible at all) but I manage.
[9:40] the movie begins.
he constantly leans over to tell me something or seems to be smiling at
me. I am overcome with glee.
[10:12] I decide that I am in love with Batman. I also have to go pee.
[10:23] I finally tear myself away from Batman long
enough to go pee.
[10:32] Batman rages on.
I fall deeper in love.
[10:47] I notice there is still a nice, cute boy next to
me. he smiles at me. considering the intangibility of Batman, I
smile back.
[12:16] the movie is over. we walk out to his car. he immediately engages me in
conversation. we talk about the finer
parts of this movie and others. he is
intelligent. he can keep up with
me. I like him.
[12:28] he returns me to my car. he tells me he had fun and insists we do it
again. I agree. I hope I don’t sound insincere.
[12:38] we hug again.
he still smells good.
[12:43] I get in my car, I smell me. I do smell good afterall.
[1:04] he calls to make sure I got home okay. he promises to call on Monday. we still have to have a Family Guy
marathon. I am tickled
[1:18] I fall asleep thinking of fun new things I can try
with new boy - like canoeing. I hope
he’s never been canoeing before.
[it is now 10:54 on monday with no word from ole boy.
man, I'm good at this reading people thing]
