Happy Birthday Gustav Holst!!!!!
As many of you know (though some of you might not), my favorite composer is Gustav Holst (1874-1934). He was an amazing British composer, way ahead of his time but also was concerned with preserving folk tunes and teaching / bringing great music to everybody. He founded a number of amateur music societies and festivals and taught at a number of schools and was just all around awesome. Probably best known for his orchestral suite "The Planets" (or if you are a fan of Charlotte Church you may know the song "I vow to thee my Country") but he wrote many other pieces (my band geeks should all know and love the suites for Military Band) So I shall be listening to Holstian music all day and if anyone is interested in borrowing a CD or something just let me know and join in the celebration.
