Today in the car I was listening to my best of Better than Ezra (oh yes, I am that cool. Not only do I have the best of Better than Ezra, I have their entire catalogue on CD. You are privileged to know me) and "Extraordinary" came on. Extraordinary is basically the music of the late 1990s encapsulated in song. It was driving my dad crazy trying to figure out what it sounded like--something very popular that he described as "Na na na na na na na na I wanna be a rock star." I found Everclear's "Rock Star" which got me thinking with my 1990s brain and I realized it was Smash Mouth's "All Star." It's pretty amazing. I miss the days when people used to make real videos.

This, however, unleashed a Pandora's Box and I have spent the last little while youtubing Chumbawumba, Matchbox 20, the Goo Goo Dolls, Weezer, Bush and basically everything else that rocked my socks when I was in junior high. I was born 10 years too late.

Anyway. This post was first to let you know that rather than going to see the midnight showing of Ghostbusters at the Uptown, I instead decided to stay home youtubing music from the 90s (and I'm going to watch Jumper because I have an active social schedule) and that All Star may actually be the greatest music video of the late nineties. It's half a decade encapsulated in a music video. This is the world of post-grunge, my friends.

And it is amazing.
