Oh come on people. You're all talking like New Orleans has already been wiped off the map. Sheesh.
New Orleans has been hit by storms before. It will be hit by storms again. Sure it's going to take some damage, but nothing that can't be fixed or rebuilt. You can bet they will rebuild. Louisianna is not going to let all that tourist income vanish with the gale of a hurricane.
Besides as soon as the storm comes ashore you can pretty well bet that the winds will drop significantly. Heck the winds dropped from 175MPH to 145MPH before it even came ashore this morning. (Cat 5 to Cat 4)
They are going to have water damage, they are going to have wind damage, but it'll still be there and they will clean up and rebuild.
They have evacuated everyone from the high risk areas, tied down everything that could move, boarded up windows and doors. They will ride it out and pick up the pieces and put them back together again and in six months Katrina will be a memory.
Really, you are acting like this hurricane is the end of the world.
