South Orange, South Orange, South Orange

So, here I am again at the Salesian House of Formation at South Orange. This is one of the places where I love to go, 'cause I can just chill and enjoy the feeling of BEING Salesian without having to DO anything Salesian. Sometimes it's nice to chill and not be in charge and not have to be the leader.

This is the beginning of Gospel Roads I, Week 2. Lauren, J.J. and Jessica are journeying on this week representing STM. They are on my heart because they are so special and there is so much I want them to gain from the experience.

Right now, I am sitting in the lobby of the Salesian House just putting thoughts down while they are doing the first ice breaker of the journey. Kim Phan is cooking dinner in the kitchen, and baking a killer cake. Kenny is on his way to Newark Airport to get some more people flying in from Florida and Louisiana. Everyone is in the Community Room spending time getting acquainted. Fr. Franco is about the house doing his thing, and Fredy is standing behind me cutting construction paper and making fun of Fr. Greg.

It makes me think of how close I feel to the Salesian family... many times more so than with my own family. I think all too often we define family as the people with the same last name as us, or who look like we do. To me, family is the place where when you are there, you take a deep breath and say: "Ahhh...home." Truthfully, I do look like all of these people. Each person here displays the presence of Christ and the Salesian spirit... and I know both of those things reside in me - so there is DEFINITELY a family resemblance.

Well, I am gonna go. The group just went outside for an activity; and I am going to enjoy this time before I have to leave and go back to Happy Hauppauge. The time is always so short with the ones we love - appreciate it now. I am looking forward to breaking bread over a home cooked Kim Phan meal before I head back.

See ya! Have a safe 4th of July...
