Not all things to all people

Today was a challenge. So many people want me to be so many things, and it seems that just politely saying "NO" doesn't ge the message across.

Peer pressure isn't something that just happens as a teenager. As an adult, sometimes it's even worse. It is hard when people want you to change your ideals and your values for their idea or what should happen.

People see me and think "Easy target!" Let's just mess with this Joe and see how far we can push it until he explodes. What thrill could they possibly get from that?

A dear friend told me how important it is to just let people be who they need to be, and not pressure them to be someone they are not.
I have an even better source for that one...

"Do not try to be anything but what you are; and try to do that perfectly." --St. Francis de Sales

(BTW... the SALESians were named after him!)

I am gonna go off and be true to myself now. Everyone else is gonna just have to deal!
