As usual, it's been way too long since I last updated this thing! But, I'll pretend that people still read it, and I'll carry on...
Well, so much has happened since I last wrote! Just kidding! My life isn't very interesting at all, sadly, but I'll try to make this a riveting read. (The alliteration should help.)
Have you been to a buffet recently? I have, and here are some helpful hints:
1. If you have some corn on your plate, and you spot a random, unmarked topping, DO NOT put it on your corn. Because it might be vinegar, and corn mixed with vinegar has quite a unique flavor, but in a bad way.
2. If you have french fries and pasta sitting next to each other on the same plate, BE VERY CAREFUL when you add salt to your fries. If you mess up, well... Let's just say salty pasta isn't as delectable as one may hope.
Comcast shut off my cable! Those bastards! When I moved into this apartment at the beginning of February, the cable had inadvertently been left on from the previous tenants. Within my first month of residence, I received two notes from the cable company, saying that if I didn't get the cable switched over to my name, they would turn it off. Which was fair enough, because I sure as hell wasn't going to pay for it. But then I got used to getting free cable, and it was a HUGE disappointment (hence the capital letters) when they finally cut me off. Now I can't even get the basic channels, such as CBS or NBC, so there goes favorites like The Saturday Early Show, Wheel Of Fortune, Price Is Right and The OC, which is actually on Fox. (By the way, just to clarify... I WAS NOT STEALING CABLE! The company's notes stated specifically that I was only to call if I wanted the cable put in my name. Thank you for understanding.)
So hundreds of my friends, aka Amy, are thinking of coming to Quincy for the upcoming Alumni Weekend. Hmmm... I'm thinking about it, but considering it's a 5-hour trip, and gas is $2.99 a gallon here, it's doubtful that I'll make it. I miss Quincy so much though! It seems like I've been gone for a lot longer than 8 months. I did get to visit Quincy a couple months ago, and that was great! I wasn't even there for 24 hours, but it was wonderful getting to see a lot of people again. I wish I could've stayed longer, but that's what I get for working! And yes - I did go to both Steak And Shake and Wal-Mart!
Speaking of work, I'm enjoying my job at Allstate, but only slightly. Still, it's good to be getting paychecks that are worth something, unlike the pittance I was receiving at Circuit City. I tell you what, though, the most emotionally draining part of my job so far was taking claim reports for the victims of the recent Hurricane Katrina. I talked to hundreds of victims over the course of three days, many of whom hadn't even seen their property, but knew from what they'd seen on television that their homes and everything they owned had been totally destroyed. Everything. These people literally have nothing left except the clothes they were wearing, and I really wished that I could help them out more than just taking a phone call. The saddest story I heard was from one poor lady who said her 83-year-old mother had to sleep on a cold floor in some abandoned building because they didn't have enough money for transportation or a hotel. It says a lot, I think, that the majority of the people I spoke with were extremely thankful and appreciative to be alive, and didn't really care too much about their homes and belongings. But it's also fairly disheartening to learn that a great deal of relief donations aren't making it to the victims, which I know makes some people skeptical about donating at all.
Has anyone ever read the book Sybil? Sheila asked me to read it, and I'm on Chapter 5 now, where one of Sybil's many personalities is being described for the first time. My theory is that she didn't really have multiple personalities - She was going through mood swings because of a very severe period.
JUST KIDDING!
Does $625 per month seem like a lot of money for rent? It does to me, so I wonder why I pay this month only to have my appliances go bezerk. A few weeks ago, my air conditioner was leaking all down my wall, and now there's great big patches of mold to look at. And this weekend, my dishwasher - which I hadn't used in a couple months - leaked on my kitchen floor. And not just a little bit... I could've gone swimming. I don't know what will break next... With my luck my kitchen ceiling fan will fall on me while I'm sitting at the table eating breakfast. That doesn't sound too pleasant.
Okay... I suppose it's time to run this through the spell-checker. I've used some fairly big words. (Like HUGE.) If I update this more often, I could write smaller entries.
Random song lyrics: "Didn't it feel good? We were sitting there talking, or lying there not talking. Didn't it feel good? You dance with the lady with the hole in her stocking. Didn't it feel good? Didn't it feel good?!"
