a/n:
femslash100challenge word: romance. Also I sincerely believe that Quinn would enjoy An American Tragedy. I think that makes me awful.
Holly is the type of woman that falls asleep during A Place in the Sun.
At first, it doesn’t bother Quinn too much. She tells herself that she’ll get used to the jarring way that her girlfriend (and that’s still such a startling word to think, particularly in regards to a woman who was once her substitute teacher, in high school) snorts at the romanticism of one of Quinn’s favorite movies, and that she’s with Holly for a reason.
As time goes on, and Holly’s other quirks become harder to write off, that reason becomes fainter and fainter. Vaguely, Quinn remembers that Holly plays by her own rules; that she doesn’t settle down for just anybody. She tries to remind herself that being with Holly is good for her, because they’re so different. She tries to remind herself that she is allowed to loosen up, without dying her hair all the colors of the rainbow or piercing metal studs through different body parts.
Quinn tries to remind herself how much it took to convince Holly to give her a chance in the first place, and she repeats to herself regularly, like a mantra, that She can’t just throw that back in Holly’s face.
Because Quinn does care about Holly. She cares about her a lot, and she thinks Holly feels the same.
But Quinn wants romance, and Holly wants something along the lines of casual, with a commitment. And Quinn only likes tragic romance when she’s watching, not living, it.
