how do you always seem to know just when to call

It's half eleven on a Saturday night, which for a lot of people means being out and about and doing things their mothers disapprove of...but Elizabeth is somebody's mother, these days, and tonight sees her curled up on the sofa in front of a television she's not actually watching. She has tea, and she's still picking at the food Jess fetched her earlier, after dinner and before bed.

The phone has not rung all afternoon and evening, which lately is sort of unusual, and she's already lost interest in--she's not even sure what this program is. Well. He did say she could call any time...

Elizabeth dials Fish's number, and waits, picking the savory muffin to pieces.
