Wow, it's going to be hard to sum up this past semester in an entry short enough that anyone will want to read. But I'm up to the challenge, I think.
~Right after Christmas, I was on a team to run two Freshman Retreats. Somehow, the team of about 20 became absolutely inseperable and almost magnetic. Friends common to the group, but not on the team soon became part of the circle, which has now been defined as a black hole that is eventually going to take over the world and include all people who enjoy spooning, spontaneous dance parties, inappropriate comments, extended dinners, singing in the dining hall, and God.
~We started going to the Grotto at midnight every night for a rosary during Lent, and by Easter, there was no way you could convince people not to go any more.
~We have a huge email listserv that is constantly being abused with random emails that are so much fun.
~From there, the semester just got filled with amazingly fun times and some hard ones, too. One of my very dearest friends in the group's dad died right after Spring Break. His small plane that he was piloting crashed into the mountains in California. So the group was brought close to support her and help her get through that. There were lots of nights of tears, but she's doing okay.
~We played in a huge mud volleyball tournament, we helped rebuild houses in South Bend, we had an amazing dance party, we invented Dorm Olympics (who knew I could put 11 marshmallows in my mouth?), we met every Thursday night at the dining hall and pushed long tables together to accommodate all 30 to 35 of us, throwing food, skipping around the table, singing, somehow the boys ended up with no shirts on once.... We had a girls' night slumber party, soon one-upped with some ridiculous guys' night photos. We spooned, we played frisbee, we road-tripped for Easter, we played hard, we prayed even harder. It was amazing.
~Academically, the last month of school physically beat me. I didn't think I was going to make it without a major breakdown. I did breakdown a few times. But luckily, there were always people to catch me....and Vault. I think I spent at least one weekend night of the last four weekends at school in the library writing papers. ~But luckily, I got home in one piece....so happy to be finished with the semester, but so sad I had to leave all those people I grew to love intensely. Now we're all scattered to the winds....two are in Africa for the summer, one in India, on in Dominican Republic. A lot of them will be doing Vision, so I'll get to see them when I drive William up in July.
~In the meantime, I'm here, excited about camp coming up soon, and working in the Camp Office which looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. I met one of the women who works there when I was getting trained yesterday. She said, "Hey, it's nice to meet you. We eat a lot here. And when it gets bad, we drink!" Awesome.
