Afterglow
Harry blinked as a snowflake landed on the tip of his nose. A thousand white flurries whirled around them, sticking to the ground and catching in overhanging tree branches. Every headstone was covered with snow, and now and then one was decorated with the remnants of wreaths, holly berries or ribbons, or whatever else was laid to rest beside them.
There was a sad, ethereal beauty to it all.
He felt a tug on his robes, and looked down at his godson. A red beanie and thick, green and silver cable-knit scarf hid everything except earnest eyes - grey today - and tufts of dark, messy hair. Teddy tugged again, and pointed ahead.
Harry nodded, and watched the boy run over to the nearest grave. He cast a privacy charm as Teddy told his parents about his life, everything from Christmas at Grimmauld Place to play dates to his breakfast that morning.
A hand touched his shoulder, and warm breaths wafted against the nape of his neck. Strong arms wrapped around his waist, and Harry sighed, the tension leaving his body as he leaned back into the welcome embrace.
Turning in those arms he pressed a soft kiss against his lover's mouth. Those lips, curving into a rare smile, teased out one of his own.
He remembered. Everything from the war they both survived, the deaths and Unforgivable's cast left, right and center, ending lives they both witnessed. Every experience left scars behind, visible even now in those glowing, mercurial eyes.
He remembered. But for the first time, in the light of death's afterglow, it didn't hurt to face Draco.
