catching spiders.

I can't seem to sit still. Is that a bad thing? I blame it on my attachment to the internet -_- Attention span is that of a fruit fly, fingers constantly reaching for the pesky little hyperlinks. Ugh. Just the other day, I was staring at a spider - the daddy long legs, enamored by the tensile strength of its thin spidery legs. You'll probably wince if I say that I REALLY LOVE SPIDERS. Anything from the arachnid class actually ;) I'm not all that odd, try being raised amongst 3 other brothers whose hobbies include catching 'fighting spiders' and like its name suggests, allow them to fight. They're cute little creatures, really. Some make homes in leaves of huge trees - they literally spin their webby mess on the interior of these curled leaves and poof - it's home sweet home. It's easy to spot these leaves cause they're curled up almost like how you'd roll a leaf up horizontally. Once you catch them in the ball of your palm, you could literally feel them jumping all over your hand.

CUTE CUTE SPIDERS. I have this urge to look for spiders just to hold them for abit and then leave them be ;)

And then there's the huge palm-sized tarantulas which has these microscopic hairs on their legs. THOSE are slightly icky, but upclose (maybe a 15cm distance) they're really adorable. They probably win in the smile-lines department cause their eyes are puny and they're just for show! Eyes are one of our major sensory organs, but the tarantula relies more on the hairs on their legs to feel their way around. Their sight depends on the sensitivity of these fine hairs. That's as cool as the dolphin's echolocation! (and its less likeable friend - the bat :DD PS: Fruit bats are cute too. They're cuddly and mostly feed on nectar/pollen/fruits. The vampire bats are... scary)

I was randomly counting the number of legs on the large female Golden Silk Spider (Nephila clavipes) on this (very very beautiful) picture and spotted its handicap. Wonder what happened D:!

fascination: spiders, random
