puffs, pies, pastries- savory or sweet.

I've said it umpteen times before, mom is a better cook/baker than I could ever be, though I'm trying to learn as much as possible from her. Big shoes that are impossible to fill, really. The other day, mom made some pastry/puff dough from scratch, and I was told that it was a very tricky process - if you fold the dough wrongly in between steps, you'd end up with none of the pretty, airy layers of flaky goodness that you would usually associate with pastries (think croissants and chicken pies). I didn't help with the preparation of the dough at all, so I just stood by the side and observed her go about the folding, and only offered to help while she was rolling out the dough and stuffing them with some leftover sheperd's pie filling from a few weeks ago. She also tried making sardine puffs, but they weren't as yummy as the meat filling. Savory treats aside, she also made a few pastries with cinnamon and sugar sprinkling.

The scent of cinnamon is still lingering in the kitchen as I type this entry out :D

I still have so much more to learn T_T
