Back From the Dead (i.e. Canvey)

Yeah. So I haven't been updating lately. Much of that is due the fact that I've been insanely busy, and when I haven't been insanely busy, I've been too physically and emotionally drained to write anything longer than a tweet or a facebook update (even those have slipped recently).

But school's out now, yay! So, in a nutshell, here's what I've been up to.

The big one was Italy with Chris in Easter. I don't really have the patience to do a full write up at the moment (I may when I go through my journal later), but this post links to the photo albums which are actually pretty comprehensive.

I stayed home for half-term, partly for financial reasons, partly because I was just that burned out. Francis actually said something about my persistence when he walked me home after my panic attack during our celebratory school-is-done party (yeah, not fun. Probably triggered by using something containing aspartame as an alcohol substitute during a drinking game). But I have been dancing. A lot. And slowly making new bits for my costume since the going-onstage-wearing-a-scarf fun of Basildon.

Leigh folk festival was probably the best performance we did. I've put a lot of work into a chain bra. The base is a black t-shirt multiway from BHS, but pretty much all the accouterments were my doing.

My friend Geraldine took the picture of the two of us.

The headdress proved really hot in the summer sun, so at the next performance in Basildon I changed it around a bit. These are my favourite makeup reference shots, but the costume is pretty much the same.

I also made myself a snood, which I may attempt to duplicate and sell to help raise some money this summer.

Basfest was the performance where I was unfavourably compared to Chunk from the Goonies, and reminded by my lovely friends on both sides of the ocean that the guys who did so were mouthbreathers who would never make anything better of themselves. I love my friends.

(I swear, with every photo I see more of my grandmother in my face)

On Saturday I took my last opportunity to actually buy stuff in London and went to Stables Market in Camden. It's a really fascinating market, and the name pretty much says it all.

The pictures don't really give a sense of how massive the interlocking markets are. Stables is just one part of it.

Finally, robotic beings rule the world!

At the bottom of the stairs is the Afghan Man, purveyor of many lovely things. I managed to get my hands on what I need to replace the Kuchi pendant on my bra, which never really quite worked.

Next up: A trip to Edinburgh!
