Pining for the fijords

No, I'm not actually dead, and I have not forgotten that I have to post about my trip to Italy on Easter break, even though it's now the half-term break (how the hell did that happen?). But it's a lot of typing, and given that most of my "free" time goes into typing lessons, I kinda don't want to do it. It will get done eventually though, I promise.

Instead, today I bring you what I was up to this week. Absolutely nothing. I was going to go to Cambridge earlier in the week, but the weather sucked and I didn't want to go while it was cold and bucketing rain. So instead I vegged and made the first piece of jewellery I've done since coming over from Canada, which turned out to be Kim's birthday present. I ended up calling it "Moonrise on the Red Dwarf" because I was fishing around for a name that incorporated the moon and stars, and the red pearls just kind of brought the type of star into it. Total production time: seasons one and two of Transformers Animated.

I spent the rest of the week recovering from burnout (my job is seriously taking its toll) and practicing dance. Today was the Basildon Multicultural Festival. I was going to borrow the choli and underskirt I wore at the last performance from Christine when I got there, but one look at her face told me that she'd forgotten it on her counter at home. Fortunately, Christine had a wrap the right colour, I'd brought a backup skirt and bra, and Deana is a whiz with jury-rigging performance costumes.

You can really see the pinning from the back, but on the whole it looks great. It was kind of hilarious emerging from Anna's car in my bra and having Deana and Maxine descend on me with that scarf. It was kind of like a scene out of Cinderella.

Me and Deana, who saved my outfit.

The belt isn't sitting right, but this is a good full view.

During the final set, I ended up leading the chorus. Sarah was behind me and whispered "do you want me to take it?" but I was all "No, I'm good," and I did it! Granted, it's just chorus stuff, but it's a big step, and everyone said I did a good job at it, so hurrah! Progress.

After the performance, we got interviewed by Essex radio, which was a lot of fun. The host declared that it obviously wasn't a guy thing, so I mentioned Valizan, which led to the host promising to wear harem pants and a jingly belt and dance with us at the next Basildon festival. Later, Anna, Geraldine, and I gave a crash-course to three girls who were VERY interested, and they loudly declared that we should be on Britain's Got Talent.

All in all, a fun day, though I did end up with a touch of heatstroke (I hadn't counted on my arms being bare and didn't sunscreen them beforehand), so had to duck out of Kim's birthday party when everybody moved on to drinking in Southend. But I'd still do it again in a heartbeat.
