Great Cthulhu and other mysteries...

Didn't have my usual Cthulhu RPG game yesterday, the Evil One (our gamemaster) wasn't feeling well.  This particular camgaign has been going on for, gee, I think 15 years now, and my own participation has been 14 years long.  I still have some of my original characters.  Those who know anything about roleplaying in general, and Call of Cthulhu in particular are probably pricking their ears up at this point, for they know that my above statement is contrary to the natural laws of the Lovecraft universe, particularly the RPG universe.  COC is not a game for long-lived characters.   There are lots of character classes, but to my mind they fall into two categories-Those Who Read The Books and Those Who Shoot The Guns.  The former go through a period of being really useful because of the dark knowledge they've acquired until they get so bonkers they're dangerous and end up in a rubber room.  The latter usually get squished, chewed or absorbed trying to protect the former.  Short form is-you go through a lot of characters.

The Evil One has circumvented this somewhat by making our characters part of a secret order that exists to fight these extradimensional evils.  We get nifty combat skills and psychic powers as well as stat bonuses, which enable us to take a real licking and live.  So the characters last a little longer.  Was sorry to miss it, but hey-it's been around this long, it will wait.  And besides, my current character got his right leg eaten off in the last adventure and I'm trying to convince the Evil One that new prosthetics enable you to do a lot more than your standard old-fashioned peg leg.

Good news is I got my 2000 words in yesterday!  Trying to do the same today.  If I can hold at 2000 for a few days, I should make up my lax behavior on day 1 of NaNo.
