As Kagome watched Sesshomaru sleep with an indulgent smile, something caught her notice.
There was something silver around Sesshomaru’s neck.
Intrigued Kagome angled her head for a better view, but it was too small. Undeterred Kagome went in search of her magnifying glass.
She positioned the instrument over the shrunken taiyoukai.
She leant forwards.
Sesshomaru’s eyes snapped open.
Kagome froze.
For what seemed an eternity they stared at each other.
“Miko… what are you doing?
“… looking.”
“At?”
Kagome fidgeted. “At the thing around your neck.”
Understanding lit Sesshomaru’s gaze. He rose elegantly into a dignified pose, reaching for his throat, but hesitated, gazing up at Kagome.
“You wish to know?”
Sheepishly Kagome nodded.
Sesshomaru retrieved the chain looped around his neck. Kagome gasped.
It was smallest sword she’d ever seen.
“Tenseiga,” Sesshomaru announced.
“It was shrunk too?”
“More so, the wrench rendered it completely powerless.”
“But you kept it?”
“It was father’s.”
“He must have been a great demon,”
“Hn,”
A thought occurred to Kagome. “Sesshomaru-sama, do you miss your kind?”
Sesshomaru’s gaze travelled along Kagome’s tumbling hair. He caught a strand of it in his claws.
“…Not,” he said, meeting Kagome’s eyes. “As of recent.”
Kagome’s heart swelled.
