“Begin, mi-Higurashi,” Sesshomaru held out an aged scroll.
Kagome frowned. “What?”
“I do not repeat myself, Higurashi.”
“There it is again!” she exclaimed, “What’s with the Higurashi stuff, huh?”
Sesshomaru averted his gaze. “I would think you’d prefer my calling you by your family name. It is an honor to possess one.”
Kagome huffed. “In my time, everyone has a surname, and to call someone by it is very impersonal. Keep calling me ‘miko.’” She shuffled her feet. “Only you do and I…I’m used to it.” Her cheeks flushed a slight pink.
The pleasing color, however, did nothing to prevent his scowl. “Untrue.”
“Huh? Yes it i- oh.”
He growled. “Hn. A certain insect has taken to calling you ‘little miko.’”
She sighed, “It’s not like I told him to call me that.”
“You did not tell this one to call you, ‘miko’, either.”
“I’m pretty sure I just did,” she pointed out, earning herself a glare. She suppressed a giggle - it was like he was sulking over having to share a toy. “Well, it was your nickname first, so you get dibs.”
He was unappeased.
Noticing this, Kagome grinned indulgently, “And I’ll tell Harushiro that I’m not his ‘little miko.’” At the satisfied gleam in his eye, she had to chuckle. “Awww, good doggie. Your jealousy is adorable.” The familiarity between them repaired, she reached up to pat his head.
He captured her wrist in his grasp, and loomed over her, eyes smoldering. “This Sesshomaru is not jealous, miko. To be jealous is to covet what you do not have.” He smirked. “You’re mine, and I simply do not share.”
One moment, she was entranced in an amber gaze. The next, a scroll was shoved in her face. She blinked.
“Work, miko.”
She sniffed and harrumphed. “Territorial dog.”
