The things I do for my friends

So this coming Sunday my friend Gretchen is having a luau/Hawaiian themed baby shower and wanted to have a dish with Spam in it. Spam is very big in Hawaii, so I get that, but the funny part is that Gretchen is a vegan. A hippie, crunchy, water-birthing vegan, who wants Spam at her shower ( Read more... )

They call it Spam Musubi, it's one of the few dishes I keep coming up with on Google. Everything else is Hawaiian Spam sandwich or Hawaiian Spam pizza.

Why does she want Spam there? Isn't it rather hypocritical? I mean, she obviously has her own reasons for being Vegan, but Spam won't fit into those.

I know two different vegans who have various views on what they eat: I know one who is vegan but eats donuts, but I know another who reads every label and take what she uses and consumes very seriously.

But animal crackers are technically vegan-friendly (in terms of ingredients), so go figure.

She doesn't plan to eat it -- we're having meat for the non-vegans because Gretchen wants everyone to enjoy the food. She's all about authentic luau/Hawaiian stuff, so Spam it is! I also think that it's funny and I'm kinda tempted to eat it myself. Anthony Bordain loved it!

I know several spam recipies. (Remember I'm not white trash, but not from a wealthy family either.) Will call you later this week (think wednesday) with them.

Lol, I've always been curious about Spam, if the Hawaiian's like it so much there must be something to it.
