I've never had a real conversation with my grandmother, even when it's translated through my dad. We can never really think of anything to say to each other. Every time she speaks to me, she says in Gujarati through my dad, "Hello, how are you? When are you coming to India?" Today I was Skyping with my dad and she saw me from across the room and waddled over in her old lady way and told me, in Gujarati, to get my hair out of my eyes. I don't know why that feels so important to me.
My dad showed me a lot of stuff that he got from India for me. Let me say, I have the most gorgeous
sari in the existance of saris. I might be exaggerating, but it's so beautiful! It's blue and gold with bead embelishments. I only saw the sari bit, not the blouse. That might not make sense to you guys. Let me explain: a full sari outfit is 2 pieces, a blouse and a loooooooooong rectangle of cloth. The long rectangle is the "sari" which I saw, and the blouse is made to match. The sari bit, you wrap around your waist (usually around a slip) as a skirt, and you pleat it and then drape it over your upper body. I have yet to learn how to do this. But yes, that's what I got a peak at. Also some jewelery that my dad got me. Apparently the fashion of bangles in India right now is chunky wooden painted ones, which is WICKED. I can probably buy them HERE but I want Indian ones, not imported from Indian ones. My dad was really thoughtful and got a necklace/earring set for my mom's boss and our neighbour's wife, and of course my mom. He's gonna get Lena one becase she fucking loves Indian stuff. I got one to match my sari, it's so gorgeous I could die. I also have 2 anklets coming my way. They are silver but fake silver, and they are so pretty!
I swear sometimes I get so spoiled. My dad gets like that when he's away from me. He misses me and wants to buy me every pretty thing in the world, but once we're together he remembers that I'm a jerk. LOL I hope he knows I appreciate everything, and I don't mean the jewelery and clothes; I mean everything.
I'm going to bed now. Long day tomorrow. I am getting English and History department clothing.
