So I had a couple of weekends of driving school. (My family didn't have a car when I was growing up... My parents walked to work, and I do now, and I've always lived near decent public transit so I haven't bothered to get a license before now) Our teacher was originally from the Czech Republic, and is a pretty goofy guy. Then they flip it on, after saying 'DO NOT STOMP THE BRAKE'. I had just gotten on the hwy loop which was 55 (this was like just before they took off the nationwide 55 limit thing) and when they flipped on the speedometer I was doing 74...
I used to bicycle everywhere... after moving to TN I found it too dangerous, I got bumped off the road twice by pickups (on purpose at least once). These days I am in walking distance of work now and like only putting gas in the car every 6 weeks or so, and am planning on a bike soon for grocery shopping/slightly further trips.
Also I hate ABS. There's a lady at work that learned to drive on ABS. When I've had to ride with her I make sure there is nothing whatsoever loose in the car, because it will be headed forward at the first stop sign or red light. I mean ABS has it's perks (it WILL stop you faster if you just jam the peddle down than if you did that without it) but it's better to know how to drive.
(interesting thing, my dad worked on the design of the ABS system for the Convair YB-60. It was very good, but also significantly different than they type of system cars use.)

I think the teacher did hit a cyclist once, who tried to pass on the right. Supposedly he keeps that booklet in his glove compartment for just such occasions. He opened to the page about the law, and mimed kicking the cyclist in the ribs while telling him he was missing lights on his bike, etc. XD
Neat. (re: Convair) Speaking of planes... This is pretty old but I just read it recently: http://www.econrates.com/reality/schul.html
