So we have done some yard work. The backyard is nice now. I have set up my chicken coop at my new house but the pen is not quite finished, and also I don't live there yet (though it's only a couple houses down) so the chickens have not yet moved. But with the yard fixed up (also tomatoes have been planted) the chickens can no longer just free range out there as they tear up everything.
The solution has been to let them out for a few hours every evening (when it is coolest) and sit with them and chase them away from the new flowers and vegetables. This tends to go on for a good long while as most of the chickens retire fairly early but the idiot extra roosters like to stay up late and are difficult to catch/herd back into the coop. It's probably 80 degrees out at least, and I am sitting in a lawn chair digging our wireless signal and breaking up rooster fights. And I was, until the signal got interrupted, watching Doctor Who.
What crazy modern times we live in.
