Follow Through

I have been slack in my writing lately. I was discouraged (with kind of everything) last summer then I got caught up in other things and started various jobs and just haven't gotten back to it like I should. But I mean to remedy this.

I'm still working on Intrepid Space Heroes. I'e gone through many character designs and have most of the main cast (or rather the starting cast) about where I want them. I still need to come to a decision on the captain's hat. I keep giving her an awesome pirate hat which will probably have appearances in the comic, but is certainly not standard issue. The problem is that hats are my nemesis. Perhaps something sort of chunky.

But I have a uniform design that I am pleased with and that translates nicely across species.

The music they are playing in Vancouver in between the pairs short performances is hilarious. Right now it is playing Diana Ross.

These German skaters are fantastic.

Anyway, I feel like I've reached a point where I just need to make a comic. Boxes with words and pictures. I've been a little concerned about started a huge arching narrative, but I really just need to do a quirky one off and not worry about a grand storyline. I want my computer back from the shop so I can color in photoshop. Right now it is in the shop getting more ram. But it's at the only computer place that isn't an hour away, and the one guy who runs the place also does tech support for both the hospital and the school district. So he's busy and it's taking a long time for him to get to it. My computer has been there for almost a month though, so I will call tomorrow and find out what gives.

Next Friday I get not only a paycheck, but also my tax rebate, and then I will order a shiny beautiful new Macbook. It's name will be Robbie and it will be my precious. Sadly I will not have Photoshop for it, but I will still get GIMP and I'm pretty sure that the copy of Painter I got with my tablet will be compatible so I will still have my digital sketchbook. I will take it to coffee shops and draw and be pretentious. It will be awesome. Also I miss having a laptop.

Now it is time for bed. I have class tomorrow morning (though not very early) and I am tired.

Oh wait! Brother related dorkiness! So last summer-ish my brother discovered and/or made up (not sure which) a game called Cat and Mouse. In the game two teams get into their cars and drive around our small town playing hide and seek. They give each other clues as to their location via cellular telephone. That was popular for a while.

Then my brother made up a game called Rambo which has been much more popular for much longer. In this game there are two teams, one in a car and one on foot. The on foot team tries to sneak across town through circuitous back alleys and such without being seen by the car team who is driving around trying to catch them out. This game has finally gotten old though. Also the cops are tired of it because the teenagers skulking around keep getting mistaken for car prowlers. Also nobody feels much better when they discover that their car isn't being prowled, but that there are gangs of teenagers roaming around after dark. Did I mention that this game is played late at night?

Anyway, Rambo, having finally lost its luster, has been once again supplanted by a late night cross country version of capture teh flag. It has specific rules designed to make it difficult to cheat and to encourage strategy and to prevent it from becoming repetitive the way Rambo did once everybody learned the roots through town. They're playing it right now.

The thing that is baffling is that my brother is a dork. He is not super popular or anything. Everyone likes him fine but he's hardly one of the cool kids. We don't understand how he has the kind of pull to convince half the highschool to play these ridiculous games. They're teenagers. They should be out getting drunk/stoned/STDs not playing relatively wholesome school yard games. Albiet after dark and all over town in cars. But seriously, the guys orchestrating all this used to be real concerned about the 10 PM curfew (until they found out that it was actually illegal/unconstitutional). I'll report back as to how the capture the flag venture goes. Gus asked my mother for some white fabric for the flags (the better to be seen in the dark) and she one upped him with some silver sequined stuff that made me shout "Hey Abba called! They want their flags back" which was not an optimal insult, but did encompass the sitch properly.

Anyway, bedtime nao.

And Hurray for Canada winning a Home Gold!
