My mom's peekapoo Henry was just diagnosed with a grade 2 Luxating Patella. Poor thing. He was just in for his routine vaccinations and he vet found the patellar problem in both hind knees

Keep the jumping (and stairs) to an absolute minimum. That's really bad on the knees. Other than that, just keep him healthy and active and keep an eye on them.
Our Boston Terrier was diagnosed over the summer, one knee is apparently worse than the other. We first took her in because she was limping on the one leg, and they recommended surgery. But, since we took her in the limping has stopped completely so we're holding off. The vet said that jumping or any kind or jarring motion in the leg can worsen it, and as you said extra weight.
Our quote was $3000 per leg, but I've heard from others that's a bit high.
I think it's pretty close to correct actually (your quote). I suspect it includes all the things that aren't always included in those quotes (post op meds ans such). I'd figure around $3k

my mom's schnoodle was diagnosed with luxating patella in both knees as a puppy (not sure of the grade though). anyway, the vet told us to not let him jump a lot or go up stairs a lot, etc. and she is now almost 5 years old with no problems at all.
