A diffused mass of interstellar dust, or gas, or both, visible as luminous patches or areas of darkness depending on the way the mass absorbs or reflects incident radiation.
I fail to see where logic dictates that exploring through said left over particles of space would affect one's psyche or mentality or mental capabilities.
However, as it seems to have happened on many television shows, the inhabitants of this ship are obsessed with their psychological fears and paranoia. Any insanity that ensues is caused by the feelings of the said person in said situation, not as given concrete proof or evidence, but as an escape from what truth may lie beyond one's peripheral vision.
Rather than wasting anymore time attempting to explain the turn of events to narrow-minded cretins, I believe I will be accompanying Miss Menchi upon a stroll of the decks. Certainly any time with her is better spent than sitting here and subjecting myself to such drabble.
