So my external hard drive has a corrupted folder. Just one out of many. Is there anyway I can determine if this is actual hardware failure vs. virus damage (or...something else)? I was hoping I could just re-format it and keep using it but I don't want to risk it if it's just going to crap out on me again. Anyone have experience with this sort of thing? It's a Maxtor if that makes any difference (I'm getting the impression they're shitty so perhaps it does).
