Long Weekend & the Dr. Who encounter

Jun 28, 2006 21:08

Took last Friday and the Monday off work for a long weekend away with a friend in Norfolk. We stayed in her caravan overlooking the sea.
Places visited included:
Holt
Sheringham
Cromer
West Runton

Ate lots of food, including the famous Cromer Crab. Went to a maze, saw the beach, frequented the art galleries in Holt and stumbled upon a local Dr. Who convention by accident.
The art galleries were awesome. Some of the material was frankly, crap. However the good artists stood out like an under aged C.H.A.V in an off-license. Unfortunately, the piece I liked cost over £1,000. My friend and I stood there for over 2 minutes admiring the work of genius before moving on. The maze was very amusing. It was set in a lush garden with ponds, tastefully coloured beach huts, woods and grass. We had to hunt down 5 Monks and 9 letters to solve a puzzle. After 4 monks and 8 letters we gave up and had a coffee. The beach was littered with flint, but alas, our efforts to generate a spark to ignite a piece of tinder failed due to the impurities in the rock. It was either that or our incompetence, but I prefer to blame nature.
On Sunday, we went to Holt where the Dr. Who convention was taking place. After queuing up for about an hour, we finally got to see Deborah Watling, Colin Baker and Terry Molloy. Had no idea who Deborah was, but I requested an autograph anyway. By the time I made it to Terry, my cash had run out. Maybe he and Colin should have changed seats? - Other than the cast members, there were lots of Daleks, a model Tardis and lots of stalls! What an amusing day!

Aaah! Was a great holiday.... lots of chilling, (more eating) and relaxing!
