Random thinkings...

Saw an unashamedly art-house movie on Friday night. Funny that it was on in prime time (I guess channel 9 is giving up on trying to compete with Football - and giving a real alternative), but it reminded me why I sometimes don't like art-house flicks.

No Hollywood endings.

I get that in the end the guy doesn't always get the girl. And when you see enough saps get the girl in the end, and then you see a really good film where you end up feeling for the characters, and then they don't end up together, the hurt is accentuated just that little bit more. The perfect example of this is, of course, "The Professional" (or "Leon" for the French) with Natalie Portman. Tragic ending.

Which is probably why I was more in the mood for "Forgetting Sarah Marshal" on Saturday night, rather than "Street Kings".

We also saw "Vantage Point" while we were in Queensland which I quite enjoyed.

Anyone who enjoys the art of Manga should check out Britney's new clip (for "Break the Ice", I think). The song is whatever, but works well as a background to some very cool, stylised Manga animation. I thought it was cool.

I love how smell is such a great memory jog. I just poured matron_jojo a cup of tea and I was transported back to my youth, around 10 I think, spending easter weekend on our property on the Murray River. My grandpa would toast hot cross buns on an open fire, and my great uncle Noel would drink tea boiled on the same fire. He would have a cup and saucer, and would tip the tea from the cup into the saucer so that it would cool before he drunk it.

That was the favourite place of my childhood.
