If you're not familiar with this annual practice of mine, this is where I join Blockbuster or Netflix on a trial offer, every October. That way I get free, scary movies of my choosing for a couple of weeks. Since my wife and kids do not wish to share this experience with me, I usually sit up every night with the lights out and my dog by my side ( Read more... )

Actually, I've already seen the remake. The one I just got is "The Beginning" or something like that. I guess you get more backstory on how they all became a bunch of twisted cannibals.

I saw Hostel and didn't care for it much. Saw was excellent, but I didn't like the sequels too much either.

I usually lean more toward scary movies that make you use your imagination to creep yourself out, like "Rosemary's Baby", "The Blair Witch Project" or "In The Mouth of Madness", instead of slapping you upside the head with gore and slashiness. It's just that people don't make too many of those movies anymore. It's a shame. But I keep hoping I'll stumble across one.

Have you seen John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness? That really creeped me out.

Not as much as The Ring, but still.

I love all those John Carpenter movies. Alice Cooper is great in that one. I love it how he kills that guy with the bike.
