Home & Away.
It comes in a green envelope as big as his head, sloppy white letters printed across the top: You're the 1 that we want!*
He can't help but feel giddy, even as fear closes its white grip on his insides.
"You know we'll support you no matter what," his mother's shrill voice over the stove. Even his father seems pale as he opens the latest edition of The Economist.

His father's look says it all; he knows he can't turn the offer down.

The soft clacking of Taylor's shoes are all he hears; the soft brush of a kiss against his cheek. "I've missed you," he says.
She looks worried.
After three whole minutes of waiting him out, Chad caves, and tells her everything.
She waits some more.
"..Tay?"
"Hmm?"
He's blushing now. "Well?"
"I think it's fantastic news."
"What if I never see you again?"
"You have that little faith in me?"
That shuts him up.

His thoughts are racing fast, but not as fast as his feet. He hits the backboard like he was born to, watches the ball as it squishes. Score.
He trains himself not to scream, biting down hard on the inside of his lip. Ryan's Wildcat smile falters, and the ref calls foul.

Home 0; Away 1. The scoreboard never lies.
