I had a friend ask me the other day, "So, how do you know when it's really love? How do you keep the flame burning? How do you keep it happy?"
I thought about it, and realized I didn't have some big pithy secret as to how to make love stay. Some love just wants to stay, and it's a delight to keep it around. The interaction is easy; it flows. The days shade happily into each other: a nice dinner here, a weekend trip there, a great brunch the next week, a family wedding the next month, a really hilarious bull session a bit later, an intimate heart-to-heart talk a couple days later. You don't even notice the time passing; you'll look up one day and think, Damn, we've been together all these years! Where did the time go?Before I met Kev, it seemed like I was always waiting for the next disappointment from whomever I was seeing, and spending tremendous amounts of energy on trying to solve stupid conflicts that just kept coming back over and over and ( ... )
