I was a bit put off by that as well, but took it as Gatiss trying to be funny & failing. I thought the kiss was kind of funny actually--after healing he had so much energy he honestly didn't know what to do with himself. But the sonic thing...that was just *eyeroll*.
He kisses a lot of people in that episode actually, but that was the only dip and kiss-on-the-mouth kiss. And she did give him a slap for it.
I maybe could have forgiven the dip-and-kiss were it not for the later sonic boner. Like, regardless of plot-related motivation we can ascribe to it, it felt like it took things an unnecessary step too far and into some pretty dodgy territory, all things considered. She slaps him, but what we see just after isn't her justifiable outrage, but his comically hurty face. Just... too much about it was no for me, and felt too laddish to be Doctory. Meh.
I really did enjoy quite a bit of it, but I guess it's the qualms that stuck out more for me. I always feel bad posting my qualms because I don't want to diminish anybody else's enthusiasm about something, but I can't pretend it wasn't hugely problematic either, no matter how much I love lots of things in it, there was stuff that made it not hold together as a great thing, you know? :(
Never feel bad for posting qualms, bb!! If we read, we read - and you did not diminish my enthuse at all! I can see why this was like a sore thumb to you - I just almost wish I was more sensitive or something, as I hadwave a lot of this as sheer blunder or going for funny (and missing with a lot of people). *Cuddles you*
