Series 6 Countdown - 6 Days!

Apr 17, 2011 03:10

Today's post is all about Series 6 guest stars.
They're in alphabetical order in case you don't want to know what episode they're in, and I've put no details of any of their Doctor Who characters to keep spoilers to a minimum, but there might be spoilers in the comments, so tread carefully.
There's a returning actor from S5 so I've put them first and under a separate cut in case you think that's too spoilery and want to avoid seeing them when you're down in the comments. Though personally, I really don't think it's a big deal since this person has been tweeting about it!

James Corden

Where you know him from:
The History Boys, Gavin & Stacey, and obviously DOCTOR WHO! Yes, our boy Craig Owens from "The Lodger" is back in S6.
Hopefully the bromance will be just as awesome as it was last time. I have high hopes for that because of the awesome things James has tweeted about filming for S6.

IMDb

Frances Barber

Where you know her from:
An impressive stage career, as well as various guest starring roles on programs such as Hustle, Hotel Babylon, and The IT Crowd.

IMDb

Lynda Baron

Where you know her from:
Open All Hours, Come Outside, and DOCTOR WHO!  She first worked on Doctor Who all the way back in 1966 singing that irritating song "The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon" in The Gunfighters and then returned in 1983 as Captain Wrack in Enlightenment.  Wow.

IMDb

Hugh Bonneville

Where you know him from:
Iris, Burke & Hare, Downton Abbey.

IMDb

Lily Cole

Where you know her from:
St. Trinian's, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and an extensive modelling career.

IMDb

Suranne Jones

Where you know her from:
Coronation Street, Single Father, and a really weird appearance in The Sarah Jane Adventures as a brash, gun-wielding version of the Mona Lisa.

IMDb

Marshall Lancaster

Where you know him from:
Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, Coronation Street.

IMDb

Daniel Mays

Where you know him from:
All or Nothing, Ashes to Ashes, Outcasts.

IMDb

Stuart Milligan

Where you know him from:
Jonathan Creek, most likely. He also has some prior Doctor Who experience, lending his voice to a Big Finish audio, The Reaping; the animated serial Dreamland; and apparently a serial of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

IMDb

Lee Ross

Where you know him from:
Press Gang, The Catherine Tate Show, a few episodes Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes.

IMDb

Michael Sheen

Where you know him from:
Playing Tony Blair multiple times (such as in The Queen), Frost/Nixon, Underworld.  And as Google keeps irritatingly reminding me every time I do an image search for him, in the Twilight Saga.

IMDb

Mark Sheppard

Where you know him from:
Fandom, basically.  He's been in Firefly, Dollhouse, Battlestar Galactica, Supernatural...the list goes on and on. Truthfully, I had no idea who he was until we learned he'd be on Doctor Who, but I have learned since then from a lot of you that he is ALL OVER tons of genre shows.
You may also recognize him as the son of actor W. Morgan Sheppard, who will also be in Doctor Who playing the older version of his son's character.  :)

IMDb

Sarah Smart

Where you know her from:
Funland, At Home With the Braithwaites, Casualty (and historical spin-offs), Wallander.

IMDb

David Walliams

Where you know him from:
Little Britain and generally his comedy partnership with Matt Lucas. He's also often seen participating in comedy panel games and did some amazing sketches for Doctor Who Night with Mark Gatiss.

IMDb

Whew! Hopefully I got everyone, or most of them. If I missed someone, go ahead and post them in the comments.
There's also another returning actor from S5 who is reported to be in S6 but I was advised to leave them out just in case it was overly spoilery, even though it's been posted in the comm and you could probably find out who by checking set reports and Doctor Who news.

I don't know who all these people are, so if I did something embarrassing like put a picture of someone else under their name, or found another actor with their name and listed things they haven't been in, do tell me.
Similarly, since I don't know who all these people are and thus cannot tell you how awesome they are, go ahead and discuss your favorites/squee/share pictures/recommend stuff.  :D
