I'm an idiot fan most likely -- I bought the R2 version when it first came out during the limbo of Who Was Going To Air Dr Who In The US (this was prior to SyFy giving it up and BBC A nabbing it) so I wasn't sure if/when there would be a legit dvd release for the show. Then the R1 version was released and since it was ridiculously cheap and I had Amazon gift certificates, I picked up the R1 too. Also, that was before there was any kind of confirmation that there was going to be a specials boxed set vs. just vanilla releases. This is how/why I bought the R1 version of Planet of the Dead too (but luckily NOT the R2 version since they were announced around the same time)
I bought the Specials boxed set because it was actually cheaper to buy the entire set than to shell out for the vanilla versions of Waters of Mars and End of Time 1 & 2. Plus I think there might've been additional extras with the box but I can't even remember now.
I do need to sell my extra copies of The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead at some point.
