Amy and Rory are trapped on a crashing space liner, and the only way The Doctor can rescue them is to save the soul of a lonely old miser, in a festive edition of the time-travelling adventure, written by Steven Moffat. But is Kazran Sardick, the richest man in Sardicktown, beyond redemption? And what is lurking in the fogs of Christmas Eve?

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan return as the Doctor and his companion in an all-new Doctor Who Christmas special coming to DVD and Blu-ray. Writer/Executive Producer Stephen Moffat (The Original UK Coupling, Sherlock) describes the special, "We're going for broke with this one. It's all your favourite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything. I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April."

Special guest stars include Michael Gambon (Harry Potter) and Welsh singing sensation Katherine Jenkins. The special will air on BBC America holiday 2010 with the DVD and Blu-ray to follow Feb. 15, 2011. It promises to be a must-own classic for Doctor Who and Sci-Fi fans everywhere!

The 2010 Christmas special will air in the USA on the BBC America cable channel this Christmas Day, December 25th. Today the BBC announced that they will release Doctor Who - A Christmas Carol on DVD ($14.98 SRP) and high-def Blu-ray Disc ($19.89 SRP) on February 15th, for both the USA and Canada.

The 60-minute holiday special, based on the classic Dickens story but also incorporating other holiday films you'll be VERY familiar with, stars Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as companions Amy and Rory, plus Michael Gambon ("Dumbledore" in many of the Harry Potter films) and mezzo-soprano singer Katherine Jenkins.

Besides the feature, you'll also get bonus material in the form of a "Doctor Who Confidential" inside look at the 2010 Doctor Who Christmas Special, and also the newest "Doctor Who at the Proms" concert performance of Doctor Who music, which was recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall during the BBC's annual Proms concerts.

The actual webpage also has pictures of the cover art AND the "A Christmas Carol" trailer (same one that was shown on CiN last month).

It's really nice that we're getting the Xmas special dvd so early, although I'm going to assume it'll also be part of whatever s6 box set happens.
