My grandmother's Russian is as good as it was when she roamed the Western Front triage units. She converses with pure Russians nurses and her dear Russian friends over the phone, reads the Russian Daily Newspaper, and watches NTV - Russian Fox. Lets just say, she practices a bit.
As for myself and my parents, my father is the only one who reads Russian books to keep up his language. It has been 5 years since I have read more than a page of Russian in one sitting and over 10 since I have written something. The same can be said for my mother.
My grandmother has taken it upon herself to inform us of how our odd accents are becoming more and more prevalent. With few people who speak Soviet Russian, our natural language decays over time.
Now, to the point: There are some words/phrases my grandmother remarks that I speak with perfect/flawless Russian despite the degeneration...
Fecal matter
To take a dump
Alcohol
No
What in the hell
Persistence is not a virtue in this case
Woman!!!
Somehow, I said all these today and she heard them. Do not ask why I felt the urge to post this.
