my grandpa fell on some poorly constructed steps (yes, i nearly fell on them too) and cut his head and bruised his ribs, but on doctor's inspection seems no worse off
the mother-of-the-bride was the worst ever; i told mom and dad that based on her and some of the other m.o.b.s (including one who knocked out the groom after the pronouncement), they could write a horror movie screenplay
we all love the bride (the groom was my mom's much younger cousin), but her mom:
* whined about walking her daughter down the aisle with her husband
* protested (and celebrated loudly when she got her way) the bride's request that during the "giving away" section, the parents saying "we do", wanting her husband to say "her mother and i do"
* yelled about every little thing
* was not given a copy of the order of the ceremony for fear she'd try to change it, as she had already tried several times
* made an inappropriate and significantly out-of-place toast at the rehearsal luncheon
* wore an ugly WHITE pantsuit that looked more like a marching band uniform to the wedding (and oh, were the pews aflutter over her wearing white)
* held the wedding up 20 minutes so she could yell at the caterers
* after walking the bride down the aisle, she yanked her veil off her face (something the groom is supposed to do much later), only half succeeding and barked at the bride to kiss her father (audience appropriately appalled)
* didn't have any pictures with the groom's family on the photo list after nearly 40 minutes of pictures with her family, including very, very extended members...when this was brought to the attention of the photographer, he took a couple shots with the parents and a couple with the dad's siblings and that was it
* made a hugely inappropriate toast after the bride and groom had spoken at dinner, even calling the sweet bride (who had thanked the mom profusely in her toast) "bridezilla"
* pulled the bride in to cut the cake while the groom's family was far away (we got them there just in time)
i'm sure there's more we didn't see or i can't remember...we couldn't bear to stay to watch the tossing of the bouquet (okay by me because i would hide)...i'm sure we would have heard though had anyone killed her; they must have monitored the alcohol supplies well enough
side note to this weekend: the whole family, minus the groom, went out to dinner the night before the wedding...they ordered a couple pitchers of margaritas and i had one...my mom, who was sitting next to me, whined and stole it at one point, but i have now drank with my family and in front of my mother
