The big suitcase is now stashed with the Hyatt Regency, and I'm feeling happier about leaving it with them after the concierge assured me that, yes, they do store luggage for people, it's just not usual. I get the idea that it's more of a business account thing, not a longhaired oik in a GenCon t-shirt thing.

I think, from context, it's a patron. Sort of hangs out, reading pretentious novels, often in German, and tipping his hat to the dames.
