I'm sorry to hear about your uncle. I hope his lawyer stands firm. I was not surprised by anything in your post. My father was disabled by degenerative spine disease after decades as a truck driver. He spent a lot of time on WC and doing "light work" in the office until even that was no longer possible. Fortunately, he had the Teamsters Union to back him up and get him a decent settlement. My grandfather was injured at Oscar Mayer's back in the 70s and never able to work again. His lawyer was spineless, and the settlement seemed like a joke. Although, as it turned out, the joke was on Oscar Mayer. The settlement included lifetime health insurance (with full prescription drug coverage) for him and his spouse. Grandpa lived another 20 years thanks to blood pressure and cholesterol meds, and he died after a semi-lengthy fight with cancer. Grandma outlived him by a decade, with diabetes and rhematoid arthritis. I like to believe they cost the company a fortune.
Unfortunately there is no union in this factory. Also, unions have been losing a lot of ground in this area and their power has diminished quite a bit.

The way workers are treated in thus country is a disgrace. The biggest crime is that working people aren't guarenteed health care and living wages.
I will miss you this weekend.
