At least he didn't speak much of them. He was the victim of three serious auto wrecks, one in Cuba, where a rear-view mirror bracket was driven into his skull, on in Montana, where on a hunting trip with John Dos Passos, he nearly lost an arm, and one in London, where, during the World War II blackout, his taxi rode into a stationary water tank, again injuring his head.
